Mimecast - Release Held Mail Instructions
Release held mail
1. In Outlook, click the Mimecast ribbon at the top.
2. Click on On Hold Messages
(Note: If you do not see an "On Hold Messages" option, you may need to SSO authenticate Mimecast in the Account Settings.)
3. Select one or more messages. Review the contents of the emails in the preview pane on the right before releasing. If it is not a legitimate email judging from the preview, please do not release.
4. Either click the:
Release icon. A popup menu is displayed with the release options listed below.
Note: The release and permit options are only applicable to emails held by spam protection. It will not prevent future emails from being held by Mimecast Impersonation Protection.
Reject icon. A popup menu is displayed with the rejection options listed below.
Note: The use of the “Reject Email and Block Domain” option is not recommended. Especially for common email domains such as gmail.com. It will silently block emails from all users of those email services.
How to visually monitor for held email
- Click this when you see it:

- Click the arrow in the bottom-right corner of your screen, if
(the white M) has a red dot that means you have a held email:

- Optionally you tell your PC to always display
mimecast so you don't have to click the arrow:
- Click the search or Windows button then type tray icons:

- Click 'Controls which system' item:

- Scroll down, when you see 'Microsoft Outlook' with the white M symbol (
) turn it on:
