Mimecast Advanced Archive Searching

Mimecast Advanced Archive Searching

What are the advanced search criteria available when searching the Mimecast archive?

Walkthrough

The following criteria can be set within the Advanced Search view.

Field
Description
Text

List any of the text you want to search for, separating the words with a space. All emails containing any of the search terms will be displayed. For more information, view the related article on Search Examples.

  • The following terms are automatically excluded from the search: "a", "an", "and", "are", "as", "at", "be", "but", "by", "for", "if", "in", "into", "is", "it", "no", "not", "of", "on", "or", "such", "that", "the", "their", "then", "there", "these", "they", "this", "to", "was", "will", "with".  These common words are not indexed by Mimecast when an email is archived, and therefore are ignored when the search query is performed.  This also applies when using phrases.
  • In some cases, searching for an attachment of type 'txt' or 'html' may return more emails than expected, since all emails have a 'body.txt' and/or 'body.htm' part.
  • Search filters can be used to narrow down the search results. For example, "subject: term" would return emails with the word "term" in the subject line. For more information, view the related article on Search Examples.

Archive Searches can only start with valid search text. Wildcards or other search parameters, such as '!', used as the first character in the search string will cause the search to fail.
