The following printers are not supported at all, please don't purchase them and we can't support them.
HP
Any HP printer with a model number that ends in an e and has the phrase "This is an HP+ printer. It requires an HP account" or "Works only with original HP toner; requires HP account, internet to operate" or similar language anywhere on the product page or literature, including, but not limited to:
- HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe
- HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3101fdwe

- HP LaserJet M140we
- HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdwe

Any printer that requires the user to sign in with a third-party account
This part is not model specific. If the printer requires the user to sign-in with a third-party account, with no way to opt-out from this, the printer is not supported by Nexus IT.
More and more printer manufacturers are requiring the user to sign-in up with an account and connect the printer to their servers, in order to use the printer.
This is at least an optional feature on basically every printer sold today. For the smaller number of printers where it is completely required, with no supported way to opt-out, this is incompatible with Nexus IT supporting the installation of this printer on Nexus equipment. This is due to a number of reasons, including HIPAA compliance requirements.
Not recommended printers:
The following printers are not recommended. Please consider not purchasing them, and if you already have one, we can make our limited best effort at supporting them.
Canon
- Any Canon Pixma printers - These printers are not recommended, because the printer driver must be installed by actual local Administrator account.
We can sometimes work around this by adding domain admin account to local Administrator group explicitly.
HP
- Any HP printer with a model number that ends in an e and does not have the phrase "This is an HP+ printer. It requires an HP account" or "Works only with original HP toner; requires HP account, internet to operate" or similar language anywhere on the product page or literature.
Please note: if these phrases, or similar phrases, are present in documents related to the printer, as stated above, the printer is completely unsupported by Nexus.
A printer must be able to function without an HP account (or any other third-party account) to have any level of support by Nexus IT.
HP does sell a large number of printers that will not function at all without an HP account. At the time of this writing, these are primarily, but not exclusively limited to, HP laser printers with model numbers that end in e.
Supported Printers
We are not able to suggest specific printers for personal purchase, however we have yet to run into these kinds of issues on Epson brand printers.
We are able to provide limited, best-effort support for installing any personally owned printers, with exceptions to this noted above.
