To locate optional updates, follow these steps:

  1. Plug the computer in to power. Please do not remove the power cord during this process, no matter the charge on the battery on laptops.
  2. Right-click on the Windows Start button.
  3. Click on Settings.
  4. Go to Update & Security.
  5. Navigate to the Windows Update tab in the left sidebar.
  6. Click on the View all optional updates in the right-hand pane.
  7. You'll find a list of optional Windows and Driver updates here. To install them, check the boxes and click Download and install.

  8. The update will be downloaded, and Windows will install it for you. You will then be asked to restart the computer. When you do that, the update will take effect. The BIOS (firmware) update may take up to 20 minutes. Please do not attempt to interrupt the process, even if it says the update failed. This just means that one part of the system was already up to date, and it will proceed.
