Remote access (VPN) - Connect to AOVPN on an assigned Nexus PC

Prerequisites

  1. MFA registration must be completed. Smartphone/tablet must be nearby
  2. Assigned PC from Nexus. If possible first-time sign in should happen at Nexus office
  3. Completed Nexus Electronic Equipment Agreement (will be provided by IT staff)

Remote access (VPN) with an assigned Nexus PC

Nexus Always On VPN (Virtual Private Network) connects any internet to Nexus's network. This is the 'phone home' feature.
  1. While offsite connect to internet AT the login screen
  2. Sign in with username & password
  3. In bottom-right click  Wi-Fi or  Network icon, click VPN to Connect:
    1. If you do not see VPN you may have to scroll to see it, but you can click & hold to move it up:
  4. Click or enter your email (in the white window), then enter password you use to sign in to your PC:
  5. On smartphone (or tablet you setup with the barcode [MFA]): tap approve & enter number seen on PC screen. You may have the option to get a text or call.

    1. If you don't get an alert on your phone open the  Microsoft Authenticator app, tap 3-dots in top-right, & tap 'Check for notifications':
    2. You should also click the checkbox so you aren't bugged again later:

  6. Wait until the VPN shows 'Connected'

  7. Work resources show now be working. Be aware remote access is always a tiny bit slower than working at a Nexus office because of the complexities of VPN's
    1. Shared/network drives may have a red X, simply double-clicking them should rid the red X

FAQ

  1. If VPN says 'Can't Connect', 'The specified port is already open', or you get a prompt on your phone minimize all open app windows on your PC to check for a prompt. Respond to it then try VPN again. If you get same error you can either restart your PC or arrow next to VPN, 'More VPN settings' then click Connect in this new window
  2. Outlook, Teams, or other Microsoft Office application is not working and/or prompting you to click your email & 'Approve sign in request' on your phone
    The VPN has likely disconnected please attempt re-connecting. If VPN shows connected close & re-open the app. Outlook bottom-right may need password, if working it should show 'Connected to':

  3. My network shared drive or other Nexus resource isn't working
    Verify VPN connected & wait 1-2min then try again. Still not working see this article
  4. If a VPN is stuck on 'Connecting'
    Please verify your internet is connected (ex: try going to bestbuy.com). Restart your PC if possible
  5. Every 24 hours the VPN expires then disconnects for security which may happen silently.
