Resolve Dock & Monitor Issues

Resolve Dock & Monitor Issues

When using any model of docking station with a laptop, you may run in to one or more any of these issues:

  1. One of more of the external monitors will not work,
  2. One or more of the connected peripherals, like a keyboard, mouse or webcam, may not work, or
  3. Error messages during start up that looks like this:

"Alert! A 15W AC power adapter has been detected. The system can only boot with a 60W power adapter or greater."

To resolve issues like this, and any other issues with docking stations, please first try this:

  1. Ensure that each monitor has at least one DisplayPort or HDMI cable connecting the monitor to the docking station.
(It is possible that one of these cables has become loose.
Some monitors have both a USB cable and a HDMI or DisplayPort cable connecting to the docking station.
A USB cable alone will not be able to drive the display.)
  2. Disconnect the USB-C dock cable from the left side of the laptop
  3. Disconnect the power cable from the dock
(Dell docking stations will often have a blue light on the end that plugs in to the dock - please let us know if you have any questions about the power cable.)
  4. Wait at least 3 minutes
  5. Reconnect the power cable to the dock
  6. Connect the dock cable back to the laptop
If after doing this, your monitors arrangement needs to be adjusted, please see:
