Resolve Dock & Monitor Issues
To make laptops work with big screens (called monitors) & keyboards/mice with wires we use a 'dock' or 'docking station'. This is a box that lots of cords plug into, then one cord goes to your laptop that makes it all work. If you trace cord that goes to your laptop it goes to this black box we call a dock. If the screens, keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc. don't work or you get error seen below follow these steps to fix, proceeding to each step if the prior didn't fix the issue.
"Alert! A 15W AC power adapter has been detected. The system can only boot with a 60W power adapter or greater."
- If the screens were working & suddenly went black, give it 5min before doing anything (like removing cable from laptop to dock/big-screens) as an automated update may be happening
- Restart the PC, unplug dock cord (that goes from laptop to big screens), reconnect the cord
- The dock cord (that goes from laptop to big screens) is delicate, do not bend or keep it at an angle
- Ensure the monitor screens have a power light. If possible, check back of each screen to ensure it has two cords plugged in. One goes to the power outlet & other one is video cable going to dock
- Shutdown the PC & unplug cord from laptop to dock (black box). Start 5min stopwatch, during that 5min on dock (black box) locate round power cord, that usually has a blue light on the side with all the cords, if the 5min stopwatch is up/done unplug this power cord. Wait 30sec then reconnect it & the cord to the PC. Power on the PC to see if problem has been fixed
- You may need to tell the PC how to use big screens, so while laptop is connected to dock, open its lid then follow the steps in this article: Set Up Multiple Displays in Windows
